SAR MANAGER COURSE APPLICATIONS

Are you interested in getting a spot on the upcoming Managing Search Operations Course, hosted by Rocky SAR on January 27-31st, 2003, in Rocky Mountain House? The course is open to anyone affiliated with SAR Alberta member or associate member organizations, however all applicants must meet eligibility criteria and spots will be assigned on a needs basis. Deadline for applications, along with all accompanying documentation, is received by mail at SAR Alberta’s mailbox by no later than DECEMBER 20TH, 2002. NEW ORDER FORM

SAR Alberta’s Order Form has been updated to include the new CER Student Manual and CER Companion Book "It’s a Disaster…". Both are available for $20.00/unit. Also in response to your requests, we have provided a discount price for volume orders of SAR Alberta crests. Regularly priced at $7.00/crest, for orders of 40 or more, crests can be purchased for $5.00 a piece. We hope to generate enough volume orders to make this a trial discount a permanent offer. DISASTER SERVICES IS NOW EMA

Emergency Management Alberta (EMA) was rolled out as the new identity for the branch responsible for crisis and consequence management in the province at the "Crisis Management: An Alberta Perspective" conference in Calgary.

EMA, which replaces the Alberta Disaster Services Branch, will coordinate all activities around preparing for emergencies, responding to emergencies and recovering from emergencies in the province. STANDARDS COMMITTEE MEETING

The Standards Committee is convening for a regular meeting on December 1st, in Red Deer. SAR ALBERTA NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

SAR Alberta relies on its provincial committees to perform much of the work that produces tangible results for you. As expectations for the provincial association continue to increase, so too does the need for additional volunteer support on our committees. Involvement may be on a general committee for a one-year term, or a topic/issue specific sub-committee for either a one-year term or for the duration of the project.

PROVINCIAL TRAINING COORDINATION MEETING

SAR Alberta's Training Committee convened a provincial training meeting on Saturday October 26, in Red Deer. Topics discussed included the grant-funded courses yet to be hosted need to be finalizing dates and locations ASAP. As well the current list of CER Instructors was provided. The bulk of the meeting had those SAR teams in attendance, collectively identifying what the training priorities would be for next year, and possibly for another round of grant funding. If your SAR Team was unable to send representation to this important meeting, and you are interested in finding out the outcomes from this meeting or if you have courses to promote or are interested in getting on, please contact the Provincial Training Coordinator, Fred McFall, at <fmcfall@monarch.net> for more information.

 

7th ANNUAL PROVINCIAL SAR CONFERENCE

The South Eastern Alberta Search and Rescue (SEASAR) Team, SAR Alberta and The Eagles Nest Ranch have joined forces to host the 2003 SAR Alberta Conference with a TWIST! With the proximity to the USA and to the Saskatchewan Border we are going INTERNATIONAL in scope. Located at the South West Corner of the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, this unique and well hidden outdoor oasis offers the SAR Alberta Conference attendees a total immersion into the SAR Scene with NO outside distractions. Cell phones don't work here! Most Pagers don't work here! Unless someone knows where you are, they won't find you!

Does your group have an event posting for the SARA Happenings mailing? If so, please send information 1-1/2 months prior to the dates you wish advertised.
